This special PLAYMOBIL set is based on Van Gogh’s passion for writing and offers families all around the world a playful way of learning about the artist’s life and work.

In Vincent’s time, smartphones and the internet had not yet been invented. Letters were the main way to keep in touch with people far away. Vincent was a passionate letter writer, eager to share his ideas and feelings.

Vincent’s surviving correspondence consists of 903 letters. Most of these are to his brother Theo, his best friend and loyal supporter. Vincent added small sketches to some of his letters, to show what he was working on. Theo kept his brother’s letters with great care. Vincent himself was less careful – travelling from place to place, he threw many letters away, or even burned them.

Fun fact: the PLAYMOBIL sketchbook shows a page with two sketches; one drawing is upside down, just like in Vincent’s original sketchbook.
