The Night Watch
Rembrandt painted the Night Watch for the civic guards of the Kloveniersdoelen, pioneering in depicting figures in action. He masterfully used light to accentuate important details, such as the shadow of the captain’s gesture protecting Amsterdam’s coat of arms on his neighbor’s golden-yellow jacket, and the small mascot of the guards in the background.
